Oboleyan Coffee Export PLC is a family run Ethiopian coffee exporter established in 2018, with deep roots in the coffee trade long before its official formation. The company focuses on premium specialty coffees from the Guji Zone in Oromia, Ethiopia. Oboleyan works with multiple processing stations including Hambella, Haro Welabu, and Uraga Districts. The company specializes in washed, natural, honey, and experimental processing methods including anaerobic fermentations. Through a strong focus on quality, traceability, and innovation, Oboleyan Coffee exports to roasters around the world including the United States, Europe, China, Australia, and the UAE. The Guji Coffee Origin Guji coffees are known for their vibrant fruit character, floral aromatics, and refined sweetness. Coffee grows at elevations ranging from 2,000–2,600 meters above sea level under natural forest shade. Most farmers cultivate coffee on small plots averaging 1–3 hectares. Handpicked ripe cherries are delivered to washing and drying stations where careful sorting and processing ensure the high quality that Guji coffees are famous for. Farmer Story – Kebede ( “Highborn”) Kebede is a smallholder farmer from the high-altitude area of Hambella in Guji, locally nicknamed “Highborn” because of its exceptional elevation and coffee quality. He manages approximately 2 hectares of coffee forest where Ethiopian heirloom varieties grow naturally under shade trees. Coffee farming is a family tradition passed through generations. Kebede and his family carefully harvest ripe cherries by hand and deliver them to nearby processing stations. Micro-lots from farmers like Kebede are sometimes processed using experimental techniques such as extended fermentations and anaerobic processes, highlighting the unique terroir of Guji. Community Development Initiatives Oboleyan Coffee believes that great coffee begins with strong communities. The company is actively working on community development initiatives in Guji, particularly in Hambella Dimtu and surrounding villages. Current and planned initiatives include: • Clean water access through drilling wells in rural communities • Educational support for students including uniforms, exercise books, and school supplies • Providing farming equipment such as raincoats, rain boots, and tools for coffee farmers • Future plans to support school and library development for youth in the region Recognition Oboleyan Coffee received first place in the experimental category at the AFCA Taste of Harvest competition with a 72-hour anaerobic processed coffee. This recognition reflects the company's dedication to innovation and quality in Ethiopian specialty coffee. We have also won the 2019 AFCA Award first place in washed process.
